Blog Tour: Seductress

Seductress Cover

When it comes to succubi, I’m an easy sell. There’s something terrifying and wonderful about someone who comes when you call, who knows your desires better than you do, and is willing to play those desires like a violin. That’s what I think when I think about succubi, anyway, and when D. L. King released a call for succubus stories, I couldn’t resist.

I started off with a few different ideas. I had one about two succubi in love, another about a succubi and a European Crusader, and yet another about a particularly scholarly succubi who lurked in a university library. I wrote a bit on all of these things, but nothing stuck until I came up with the line that starts “After a Fall,” my contribution for Seductress.

During the long days of autumn in Hell, the blood rivers grow sluggish and even Caras, Hell’s great heart, beats more slowly.

That was how Aquila, the narrator of what is one of my favorite stories to date, opens the story. Aquila is a pride demon, one that others call Pride’s favorite son, and when it comes to discussions of which of the seven deadly sins is the most worthy, he has no doubt at all that it is his.

Of course, he makes the mistake of mentioning this to the new Queen of Lust, and she decides to test his resolve. Pride and lust are a fine match for one another, and by the end, Aquila has a new understanding of both.

Aquila was charming, both to me, and I suspect, to the Queen of Lust herself. It was less like writing than taking dictation, and the first time he spoke to the Queen of Lust, I knew exactly how the story was going to end.

As for the Queen herself, there was only so much I could say about her given that Aquila was firmly doing the talking. The story of how she killed her predecessor and came to her rank is one I hope I get a chance to tell some day, as is the one where she became a succubus in the first place.

You should read this story if you like arrogant men taken down a notch, willing, if not terribly intelligent surrender, word play, and some time spent in a Hell full of highly politicized devils.

Blog Tour: Carnal Machines

Hello and welcome!

I seem to be the fifth stop on the blog tour for Carnal Machines, so please help yourself to some of the free fiction I’ve left out. Stay and check things out or hit my blogroll to see some of the sites.

I'm in this!

“Deviant Devices,” my story for Carnal Machines, features a prostitute searching for a better position, a secretary who goes above and beyond his job description, and a machine that’s the bastard child of a fainting couch and something much less savory. This story is for you if you like exhibitionism, erotic machinery, a woman who knows what she likes and a man who likes to work with his hands.

Writing this story was fun; it went through about a dozen permutations before it settled on the one in the book. If you are curious about this process, well, it all started with an airship engineer and a gunner.

Steampunk is one of those things that sort of broadsided me. For a long time back in 2005 or so, it was this one thing that Miss Rat did. Then I started hearing that line about goths discovering brown and then boom, stripey socks, zepplins and alternative history everywhere.

Not that I minded. I’m a big fan of Victoriana and I keep the period erotic pieces The Pearl and The Way of a Man and His Maid on my shelf. Those have both taught me a lot.*

I hope to write more steampunk in the future. I think that there’s not enough non-English-oriented steampunk out there, which was why I was so happy to see Lisabet Sarai’s offering in Carnal Machines, “Her Own Devices,” which takes place in Hong Kong.** Also, I want to write a story that has an airship pirate in it. I never have and I feel like I am missing out.

*Namely, they have both taught me that yes, it is possible to have too much flogging in a story. I did not know that before.
**I also have a little crush on her character Chris Barton in that story, but that’s neither here nor there. Ahem.

“Deviant Devices” Excerpt

The phallus was screwed into one of the jointed mechanical arms and Mercer pivoted it around and bent it forward so that it was pointed squarely between her legs.

Victoria couldn’t take her eyes off of it. It was a gorgeous toy, but she couldn’t ignore the metal arm behind it. It looked ready to impale her, and she lifted her head to look at Mercer, who was looking over the controls behind her head.

He caught her gaze and smiled reassuringly.

“This is going to make some noise,” he warned her. “Be ready.”
There was a series of clicks and then the machine began to whirr. It was not the loud, brutal clanking that she had been braced for, and she was aware of a strong, steady vibration through the frame of the couch.

She managed to observe all of that until she felt the head of the phallus pushing at her cunt. It was gentle, just probing, but she could feel the strength behind it. Victoria was beginning to feel a panic rising in her throat but then Mercer was kneeling beside her, his gloved fingers spreading her open to allow the phallus to enter.

“It’s not perfect yet,” he murmured. “I’m still needed for some things.”

“Well, thank God for that,” she said, breathing hard. She wrapped her arm around his shoulder, and having him there, solid and human, helped as the phallus pushed into her body in short, smooth movements.

And Now We Play the Waiting Game…

Despite being slightly dry on the writing front right now, that doesn’t mean I wasn’t earlier this year. What that means is that I have quite a few stories out, and I’m waiting to hear back on them.

This is one of the most irritating parts about being a writer, where all of your work is currently out and there’s nothing you can do about it. I have something like five short stories waiting for a response, and the answer to the stress is simply go write some more.

As far as I can tell, that’s always the answer, so have a small piece of fiction before I need to pop off and finally get some good sleep.

First was the shock of pain and then the taste of blood in his mouth. Peri’s cheek stung and he forced himself not to cringe, not to show in any way that he was afraid.

Satviy made a hissing noise through his long teeth. It might have been disappointment, but to Peri, there was an unpleasant savor of anticipation there. Thin hands spidered up Peri’s bare side, unexpectedly ticklish before stroking along his jaw. The pleasure was as unlooked-for and as unwelcome as the pain.

“Soon,” Satviy said, nipping his strong white teeth against the skin of Peri’s unmarked cheek. “Oh, soon, beloved.”

You were beloved, and then you were dead
, Peri thought with a surge of fear. He cringed when Satviy’s hand brushed between his legs, stifling a helpless cry that was far too close to a whimper.

Yes, some longing part of him thought, but first you were beloved.

A Review and Cape Bondage Attempt #2

To start off today, we have a review from Lerite over at Livejournal, so please go and check that out.

Okay, so I checked my comments and no one saw fit to tell me what cape bondage* was. So, we’re up to attempt #2 to figure it out and it features lesbian matadors.

She had had a friend do up the polymer clay horns, but I don’t know where Minh found the matador outfit or the cape. The outfit hugged all her curves and then gave up when it got it to her breasts, which burst the first two buttons of her shirt.

I would have appreciated it more if she hadn’t been putting the horns on my head and cooing about how fierce I looked.

“I like the outfit,” I was babbling. “I really like your jacket, and the horns are even pretty cool, and um, maybe we could do this without the sword?”

Minh swished the narrow sword through the air with rather more speed than I liked and grinned.

“I did that thing with the feathers, the egg and the high heels,” she said. “Fair’s fair.”

She struck a pose and flourished the small red cape.

“Okay, now charge!”

Cannot say I didn’t warn you.

Novella: Lord of Misrule

My novella just got released today!

Lord of Misrule features Verity, a grad student sorcerer who’s too smart for his own good, his competent and rather sadistic manservant, a mummy, some academic banditry, some angst and a whole lot of sex.*

I’m very proud of this story. I really enjoy the characters, and other people who like my work will definitely like this one. I can think of worse trademarks than smart-ass characters and fairly believable sex.

I’ve written about Lord of Misrule in the past, and the summary they have up covers it pretty well, so there’s not much left for me to say except please buy my novella.

If you read it, please let me know what you think! I’m always happy to hear from readers and if you review it,** let me know so I can link you.

Attempt at Cape Bondage #1

Thing One:
Looking back at the last entry, my god, I need to edit things and not just assume that the text gremlins will eat my mistakes.*

Thing Two:
I’ve found out there there is a plant called the Buddha belly. This delights me beyond all measure of man.

Thing Three:
Oh yeah, have some fiction, and join me as I try to figure out what cape bondage means.

For today, cape bondage refers to media involving superheros and bondage.

We managed our first kiss while I was hanging by my toes from an seventeenth-story ledge and he was leaned out of a sixteenth story window.

“Nice,” he yelled over the wind. “Did you grow up in a circus?”

“Try again,” I smirked, letting myself drop only to catch myself on a flagpole a few stories below.

Our next kiss was a little more desperate. We were squashed into a crowded maintenance closet in Grand Central Station, hiding from the Feverman’s thugs. His hand ended up on my breast, and my thigh was nudged up between his leg, and it sort of went from there.

“Contortionist and acrobatics,” he muttered. “Secret Chinese monastery?”

“I’m not a monk, I’m not Chinese, and shut up, I think they’re coming back.”

He finally got me out of the leotard and tights on New Year’s Eve, after Miracle Child and Nyanza blew the Infernium back to Hell. I left the mask on, and he was enough of a professional to let it go.

“Okay, I got it.” he said. I hadn’t uncuffed him from the bed posts and I just made a grumbling sound as I nuzzled closer to his chest.

“You’re a beautiful woman who fights crime in a mask, you like a little light kink in bed, and you don’t like being asked about your past.”

“Mmm. Now you’re getting it…”

Four Reasons to Read Lord of Misrule

It’s been a long week in the middle of a long month in the middle of the summer that will not end,* and looking back, my coherency isn’t holding up worth a damn. If I let this slide the way its been going, there’s no telling what this place is going to look like** so let’s nip this one in the bud.

Today, have a very calm, very collected and very organized entry.

My erotica fantasy novella, Lord of Misrule is going to be coming out soonish, and this is tremendously exciting. I started this blog somewhere in the middle of revising it, and looking back, I’m not sure how clear I’ve been about it.

It all started about a year ago, when I wrote a short story for Circlet Press. I dawdled about the premise for a while, then I remembered the Feast of Fools, and the position of the Lord of Misrule, who presided over the revels. I got the idea for a spoiled scholar and his extremely long-suffering servant, and it went from there.

Circlet liked it, and Cecilia Tan asked if I would be interested in expanding it for a novella. I said yes, I got to work, and somewhere in there, I wrote about 45,000 words on Verity Fen and Iskander Bahadur.

I’ll probably be talking a lot about this novella as it gets released, but for today, have four reasons why you might want to pick it up when it comes out.

There is a lot of kinky sex in this book.
It’s a piece of erotica and it has two relatively attractive men having a great deal of sex. There is a great deal of dominance and submission, corporal punishment, humiliation and bondage. There are a few other kinks in there, but I think there are all the main ones. As it turns out, there’s some breathplay in there too, but that one kind of sneaked up on me.

There’s a lot of angst in this book.
I’m a yaoi fangirl at heart, and yaoi is propelled by anal sex and angst. These characters are Not Well, and some of those hurts go very deep. I’ve talked a lot about unhappiness in this blog and how it intersects with erotica, and this story has a lot to say about that. However, bearing that in mind…

There is the alleviation of angst in this book.
The characters don’t get entirely well in this book, but they do get better. Part of the reason that they get better is because they’re together. They actually help each other rather get better instead of getting worse.

Sometimes, it’s funny.
Verity is possibly the snarkiest character I’ve ever written. Most of the characters I write are a little too close to the edge of the abyss to really find many things funny, but Verity at least starts out as a fairly successful student at his university.
